According to the Colombian Steel Committee (ANDI), the steel industry is the backbone for the country's progress, as it is an industrial sector that goes hand in hand with the metalworking and construction sectors, sectors that drive the country's economic growth through be sources that generate formal and informal jobs, active taxpayers, buyers of raw materials with high volumes that have social responsibility, since in turn it is a responsible industry with the environment, cleaning the country through the purchase of scrap , the recirculation of water, the use of by-products derived from its operation such as slag, calamine, among others. Based on the importance of the steel industry for the economic and social development of the country, there is the problem of the importation of long steel, which decreases the consumption of Colombian steel, which is why this work determines the economic consequences that are generated. to the steel industry between 2016 and 2019 as a result of flexibility on the part of the national government.
