In Colombia, same-sex couples have gone through a long struggle to obtain the same constitutional guarantees that traditional couples hold power, one of them is to form a family through the bond of marriage by the free and mutual consent of the contracting parties. Gradually through extensive jurisprudence, this type of couples has been achieving recognition from different areas, such as: health, social security, property rights, among others. That they have been placing them on the same level of equality with traditional couples, putting an end to years of uncertainty. The Constitutional Court has played an important role in the recognition of these rights of the people of the LGBTI community, from a much broader interpretation and according to the social changes that arise over time, guaranteeing that the essential purposes of a State are met. social law, as well as eliminating any type of discrimination that prevents them from fully developing their life project.
